Techie jumps from Gandhi Hospital

A software engineer made a vain bid to end his life by jumping from the Gandhi General Hospital building on Monday evening after his wife committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train along with their two-year-old son on Sunday.

The software engineer, 30-year-old Murali, was a resident of Hydernagar in Kukatpally. Murali, his wife, Girija Rani (25) and son Tanish (2), shifted to the city recently from Bangalore where the couple used to work as software engineers.

Murali reportedly forced his wife to quit her job and come to Hyderabad along with him, Girija Rani’s family members said. Girija Rani’s family alleges that Murali used to harass her on petty issues. Though the marriage had gone sour since the last few years, Girija Rani did not complain to her parents till recently.

On Sunday, Murali reportedly beat up his wife as he did not like the food she had cooked. Soon after, Girija Rani left home with their son Tanish. When they did not return for long, Murali lodged a complaint with the Kukatpally police who registered a missing case.

Girija Rani and Tanish’s bodies were found on Sunday near the Dabilpura railway station near Medchal. Railway police say the woman jumped in front of a moving train with her son.

On receiving the information, Murali came to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary on Monday. After seeing the bodies, he went to the third floor of the out-patient block and jumped from there to end his life. After being administered first aid at the hospital, he was shifted to another corporate hospital at Secunderabad, police said.
