Sonus Networks announces additional job cuts

Sonus Networks Inc. on Tuesday said it would cut an additional 60 jobs, or about 6 percent of its work force. The Westford, Mass.-based company expects to record about $1.3 million to $1.6 million in restructuring charges related to the job cuts. The pretax charges, which cover severance and other related costs, will be booked in the first quarter of fiscal 2009.

Sonus Networks, which makes Internet network hardware and software, has been shedding jobs in recent months as part of its restructuring efforts. The company cut 40 jobs, or about 4 percent of its work force, in January. It had previously cut 50 jobs in December and said the company may take additional action in the future.
