Is the government distancing itself from Satyam?

Innumerable controversies surround the computer services firm Satyam and hence, the government too has begun turning its back on the company's affairs. According to The Times of India report, the government will not 'meddle' with any of the company’s decision on layoffs and job losses. When Salman Khursheed, Corporate Affairs Minister was asked if the government would interfere incase there is a massive layoff by the new owner Tech Mahindra, he replied,"Are we going to give them jobs? We have no jobs to give. So why should we meddle?"

With the latest statement Khursheed was contradicting himself, as earlier he had said that the government would not turn a 'blind eye' to any such move by Tech Mahindra, "As we have a relevant presence in decision making." According to him, the government was in an 'active disengagement mode' after the sale of Satyam to Tech Mahindra.

Being in the middle of an economic slowdown, several companies started laying off their employees. Khursheed feels that the same decision can be even taken in Satyam too and it doesn't require government's intervention.
