Fake resumes flood banking services sector

More than half job applicants in the banking and financial services industry (BFSI) forge their degree certificates and work experience documents, according to Nasdaq-listed First Advantage Corporation.

Ashish Dehade, managing director (West Asia) of First Advantage, told Financial Chronicle that Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad emerged as the top cities with the highest number of suspect companies that issued fake resumes.

He claimed his firm came across a couple of companies that even charged between Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 annually for job hoppers wanting fake work experience certificates. “When the company officials called the reference number given by the prospective candidates, the fake company confirmed the experience of the candidates,” he added.

First Advantage carried out 1.5 million background checks in BFSI, insurance, IT, ITeS, BPO and other sectors in the first six months of 2009. In the analysis, BFSI saw the highest discrepancy rates in over two years. While one out of every four discrepancies was from the IT industry, one out of every seven came from ITeS/BPO sector.
