Yahoo Continues to Struggle Amid Ad Slump

Yahoo Inc. saw sales decline again in the second quarter as the Internet portal's online advertising business continued to deteriorate.

The company's overall revenue fell 13% from a year ago amid steep declines in both display ads, which are the graphical ads seen on Web pages, as well as search ads, where the company competes more directly with industry titan Google Inc.

Aggressive cost-cutting, including previously announced layoffs that took effect during the quarter, allowed Yahoo to post a profit gain of 7.8% from a year earlier.

Yahoo's new chief financial officer, Timothy Morse, said in an interview that the results were "not too bad in this type of environment," but admitted that the future looks cloudy.
