Viterra says to outsource 46 IT jobs to EDS and Infosys

Canada's biggest grain-handling and farm supply company, Viterra, will outsource 46 information technology jobs, or about 1 percent of its work force, as it prepares for global expansion, the company said on Thursday.

The jobs, which include desktop support and systems analysis, will move from Viterra's head office in Regina, Saskatchewan, to EDS, a company owned by Hewlett-Packard, and to Infosys Technologies based in Bangalore, India. The decision will eliminate 30 jobs in Regina by Dec. 30, 2009 and another estimated 16 jobs by August 2010.

"The reason for the outsourcing is to be able to deliver on a more global basis," said Mike Brooks, chief information officer at Viterra.
