GE Locomotive Unit to Cut 350 Jobs, Temp Lay Off 1,200

General Electric Co. said will permanently cut 350 positions and temporarily lay off 1,200 workers at its locomotive division, the world’s biggest, as production volume declines.

The actions account for about 14 percent of Erie, Pennsylvania-based GE Transportation’s global workforce of 11,400, more than half of whom are based in the area, GE said in a statement. The layoffs may last from May to November and the business will adjust as needed, spokesman Stephan Koller said.
